The Portuguese state, including central government and other sectors, owed the country’s banks just a fraction over €59 billion in April, a €287 million increase on a month earlier the Bank of Portugal said Thursday.

Lisbon, June 21 (Lusa) – The Portuguese state, including central government and other sectors, owed the country’s banks just a fraction over €59 billion in April, a €287 million increase on a month earlier the Bank of Portugal said Thursday. The central bank added that government’s overall debts had doubled since 2008 and its exposure to the banking industry had quadrupled.
