Business Confidence  Economic Outlook  Key Developments

The economic climate indicator and the consumer confidence indicator both recovered somewhat in January with the latter reaching the best level since April 2010, the Portuguese National Statistics Institute (INE) said on Thursday.

The INE said that the consumer confidence indicator (calculated from surveys of individuals) rose from -40.4 points in December to -36.7 points in January.
The economic climate indicator, which uses surveys of companies) dropped back to -0.8 points in January from the -1.1 points seen a month earlier.
The INE confidence indicators use rolling three-month averages and a negative number means there were more pessimistic answers than optimistic ones.
