One in five employees only earned the minimum wage in 2014, seven percentage points more than the year before, Pordata said on Monday.
In 2013, 12% of employees got the minimum wage and in 2001 just 4%, according to Pordata.
The hotel and catering industry has the highest proportion of workers in these conditions with 26% only earning the minimum wage of €505, followed by manufacturing industry with 24.8%.
The business database also said that only half of all companies that open their doors in Portugal are still going after two years, according to their 2013 figures.
