Lisbon, May 29 (Lusa) – The number of building workers increased 5.6% to 303,700 in the first quarter of the year, the best first quarter figures in the last five years, an industry insider told Lusa on Monday.
The livelier real-estate market is seen to be the source of the recovery in the sector, along with an increase in public works.
Sector association, Fepicop, said that up until the end of April there had been considerable jumps in the number of public tenders (+69% compared with the same period in 2016) and in the amounts of the tenders (+77%), compared with 2016 which was when the industry hit rock bottom and began to make the turn around.
