The Portuguese economy minister, António Pires de Lima, is beginning a trip to Lima on Thursday, where he is going to meet members of Peru’s government and visit Portuguese companies in the country before flying on to Colombia on Sunday.
“The aim of this visit, rather than being a roadshow to Peru and Colombia, is to accompany and support the internationalisation process of some Portuguese companies” in the countries that are “markets that are growing a lot in South America”, António Pires de Lima told Lusa.
Peru and Colombia together have 78 million consumers and these markets have “Portuguese companies in the telecommunications, IT, construction and distribution areas that are investing heavily” he said.
Pires de Lima added that his schedule was “filled with political contacts with the members of the governments in Peru and in Colombia, “including the president of Colombia”, Juan Manuel Santos, who was elected recently.
António Pires de Lima is going the week that TAP Air Portugal began direct flights between Lisbon and Bogota.
