Lisbon, May 23 (Lusa) – Portugal’s prime minister said on Tuesday that his government “will not allow” the new owner of Portugal Telecom, Altice, to dismiss about 3,000 workers, saying it was “not justified”.
Speaking at the fortnightly debate in parliament, Left Bloc MP Heloísa Apolónia said it was important that António Costa announce, “on behalf of the government” that he would not accept dismissals at the Telecom giant.
Newspaper Expresso published a story on Saturday that PT wanted large scale staff cuts and had approached the government to hear its views on dismissing some 3,000 workers.
