Portugal: Govt wants to clear extra €1B off IMF debt this month

Luxembourg, Jun. 16 (Lusa) – Portugal’s finance minister said on Friday that the country intended to make an early repayment of €1 billion to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) before then end of this month as part of the bailout package loans.


Speaking to reporters at the end of a meeting with fellow finance ministers (Ecofin), which touched on the request at the previous Ecofin meeting asking that Portugal could make an early repayment to the IMF of up to €10 billion, Mário Centeno said the process was going well and he hoped to be ab le to repay a tenth of this amount before then end of June.
