Industrial production in Portugal fell 3.6% in May, the largest monthly drop in the European Union, after the country’s production had in April shown the largest increase of any of the 28 member states, figures released by Eurostat, the EU’s statistics office, on Monday show.
According to the Eurostat report, industrial production in Portugal was up 0.3% on the year.
Output in the euro zone and the EU as a whole were also down in May, by 1.1% in both cases, above all due to drops in energy output. But compared with May of 2013 they were up 0.5% in the euro zone and 1.1% in the EU.
In May, the next largest drops in output were seen in Sweden, down 3.2%, and Denmark, down 2.1%.
