
Portugal’s jobless rate falls to 13-year low

Portugal’s unemployment rate fell below 8 per cent in December for the first time in more 13 years, the former bailout country’s statistics office estimated on Tuesday. Statistics Portugal revised its provisional estimate for November downwards from 8.2 per cent to a definitive 8.1 per cent and projected a provisional rate of 7.8 per cent for December. The November jobless rate was the lowest since November 2004 and the estimate for December would be the lowest since July 2004.
