Portugal’s major coalition party (PSD) said on Tuesday that the most recent figures point towards “the biggest fall in decades” in unemployment, proving that Portugal had turned the bend and there were reasons to be confident.
The position was taken by bench leader Adão Silva, after Eurostat’s April bulletin said the unemployment rate in Portugal that month showed the second biggest drop in Europe, from 17.3% to 14.6% in 12 months. Only Hungary was better.
“The latest unemployment figures from Eurostat are good news for Portugal because if you compare April 2014 with 12 months earlier, there are 150,000 fewer unemployed in Portugal, 16,000 of who are youths.
