President of the Portuguese Republic visits the Republic of Angola

The President of the Portuguese Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, visited the Republic of Angola on 25 and 26 September.

During his visit he met with the former President of Angola, José Eduardo dos Santos and attended the official inauguration of the President-elect of Angola, General João Lourenço. Afterwards, President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa visited the Portuguese School of Luanda and the Agostinho Neto University, where he meet with students and teachers from those institutions.

First State visit from Ivory Coast to Portugal

On 12 September, the President of the Ivory Coast, Alassane Outtara, began a State visit to Portugal, having been greeted at the Praça do Império – Mosteiros dos Jerónimos, by the President of the Portuguese Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.

This was the first visit of a head of state from Ivory Coast to Portugal. According to the President of the Republic, Portugal and the Ivory Coast are in agreement on climate change and on many fundamental issues concerning West Africa. Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa also pointed out that “from January to March this year there was a 146% growth in Portuguese exports to Ivory Coast”.

Andorra received the Portuguese President

Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, President of the Portuguese Republic, visited the Principality of Andorra on 7 September.

Accompanied by the head of the Andorran Government, Antoni Martí Petit, the President of the Republic took a short walk through the center of Andorra la Vella, after being received at Casa de La Vall, the former seat of parliament. Addressing the journalists, the President highlighted the Portuguese community living in Andorra, noting that “it is a very important community, representing 13%, 14% of the population. It is a decisive community for Andorra.”
