With a history of 143 years, BES is currently the Portuguese financial group with the largest market capitalisation and the second-largest private-sector group by total assets. It offers a full range of banking activities and financial services, including savings products, deposits, asset management, commercial, consumer and mortgage loans, investment banking and brokerage to approximately 2.1 million clients. The Bank also develops complementary activities such as leasing and factoring and the sale of life and non-life insurance products.
BES is a unique case of organic growth in the Portuguese financial system. It has steadily increased its domestic market share from 8.5% when it was re-privatised in 1991 / 1992 to 19.2% in 2011, with service quality and innovation being the differentiating factors that made BES a household name.
