Taste the destination of Porto and North of
Portugal and discover the quality and originality of its food and wines, at
world-wide level. The destination Porto and North of Portugal is undoubtedly
the paradise for lovers of gastronomy and wines. The extensive coastline with over
100 km of clear water offers seafood and fresh fish of high quality. Did you
know that you can find more than twenty-nine types of fish in our restaurants,
cephalopods, bivalves and crustaceans, all with high regularity consumption by
the Portuguese? For the meat lovers the region preserves a considerable
diversity of natural species. A total of 14 species of DOP/IGP breeds can
be found. Also with the sausages and smoked meats, the Port and North of
Portugal has a variety of products offering very diverse DOP of which is, for
example, the ‘alheira’ (Mirandela sausage) which is produced exclusively in
this region. With cheeses, the region presents two reference PDO/PGI products,
the Transmontano Terrincho Cheese and the Goat Cheese. The gastronomy is still distinguished
by very special productions such as honey and olive oil. Did you know that the
olive oil Porca de Murça was awarded the Gold Prestigious prize at the
"6th International Contest of Olive Oil Extra Virgin - OLIVINUS"?
Wine is undoubtedly the product that has come
to attract the attention of the world, highlighting the diversity and quality
of its terroirs that are confined to four regions: Vinho Verde, Douro/Porto,
Távora and Varosa and Trás-os-Montes. Here an impressive variety of categories
are produced, from the green wines, to the tranquil wines, to the incredible
sparkling wines that go back to the 17th century with the monks of Cister, and
the generous wines. Remain exclusive to
this region and Portugal the Port wine, produced in the oldest demarcated and
regulated region in the world - the Douro, dating from the 18th century, and the
Vinho Verde, with the highlight to the Alvarinho, whose demarcation dates from
1908. The North of Portugal is alive and the beating of the contemporaneity is
recognized by international institutions, especially the Wine Spectator that
punctuated its wines in the top 4 of the 100 world's best. The region is also
constantly reinventing itself with new producers and new concepts. One of the
most exciting is the "boutique winery" followed by Quinta do Vale dos
Ares in the sub-region of Monção and Melgaço and which consists of betting on the
small production.
Yet
the freshness of contemporaneity can also be savoured and this destination is
today a true haven for gastronomic experiences that have been developed by a
new generation of Chefs who find in
the local traditions their source of inspiration. The city of Porto was actually
considered a "food and design hub" by the New York Times.
Don’t forget to end your visit to the region with a
dessert. In Porto and North of Portugal the sweets are undoubtedly an
unforgettable experience, alternating between the convent traditions that go
back to the 15th century and contemporaneity. Here too history has written
endless pages of flavors discovered throughout the four corners of the World which
will carry you to a distant imaginary.
In this destination, wherever you go, you will enjoy a
friendly and relaxed atmosphere!
