"RUA DA JUNQUEIRA" (JUNQUEIRA STREET)

Póvoa de Varzim
Description
Rua da Junqueira (Junqueira Street), which has been for pedestrians only since 1955, plays a crucial role in the urban fabric. It really feels like a meeting point and pulsates with commercial vitality. It has a wealth of buildings which date from the 19th and early 20th centuries. Similar to those on the Praça do Almada, these buildings are usually quite simple, involving a commercial ground-floor plus another two floors. We should point out the use of materials which reveal a keen sense of aesthetic judgment, such as the granite used to outline the structure of the facade, together with the fairly wide range of tiles used. This richness in the composition of the elevation of the building is combined with fine wrought iron verandas.
