Inaugurated in 1892, its cylindrical metal structure is painted red and is supported by three metal stays, reaching a height of 22 metres. For many years, in conjunction with the Lapa Lighthouse, guided fisherman through the entrance of Póvoa de Varzim’s rather dangerous estuaries. However, urban development has rendered them inactive.
