Old Slate Chimney
The old slate chimney is installed at the place where in 1865 the English company The Vallongo Slates & Marbles Quarries Company Limited, begun an intensive industrial exploitation of slate extraction. The Galinheiro mine was the first quarry to use the latest technology at that time, such as the steam engine and the small railways systems for stone transport.The chimney is one of the last vestiges of the mining complex infrastructures. It is located in a roundabout.
