The Ave River extends 94 km from the Cabreira Mountain to the Atlantic Ocean at Vila do Conde. This passes also through the municipalities of Póvoa de Lanhoso, Guimarães, Vila Nova de Famalicão, Santo Tirso, and Trofa. Walking along the Ave River, from Lamedo village to Agra village, hikers will enjoy exploring this area with a beautiful landscape, Candosa waterfall, watermills, lagoons, etc. The Ave River's name may have its origin in a legend which tells a sad story of a young sheep keeper from the Cabreira Mountain and a knight.
