Carreira Gardens

Vila Real
Description

This garden arose in the 18th century out of the need to create a public leisure space, and was originally forested with trees from Gerês. The “New Carreira” was then created. Later, in the 19th century, the fountain and the bandstand were installed, and new trees were planted to form the “Avenida das Tílias” (Limes). In 1926, the bust of Camilo was installed, and in 2003, the Carreira Gardens underwent improvement works in which some steps, a children’s playground, a skating rink and a café (open only in the Summer) were added. The gardens are amongst the most prized spaces in Vila Real, with a long tradition and history for the people of the city. Bring the family, and spend some relaxing moments amongst the trees.
