Casa Torre dos Barbosa Aranha

Ponte de Lima
Description
Classified as Monument of Public Interest

Built in 17th century, this Mannerist tower combines harmoniously a square-planed tower with a rectangular residential lower aisle, both of simple elevation and regular window-line.
The tower and the residential aisle are likely to be contemporaneous, since the ashlar masonries mix together, the gargoyles are similar and from the same period, and the interior spaces of both elements of the building are interconnected.
The current denomination of the house is due to the placement of the Barbosas Aranhas’ coat of arms in the frontispiece.
