Vila Nova de Cerveira
Description

The Fortified Town of Cossourado, is located at the boundary between the Counties of Vila Nova de Cerveira and Paredes de Coura, being shared by the Parishes of Sapardos and the Union of Parishes of Cossourado and Linhares.
The archaeological works undertaken between 1997 to 2011 by archaeologists Maria de Fátima Silva Matos and Carlos Alberto Machado da Silva Gouveia, showed that it was a habitat of the Iron Age, an old castle, which occupies about 10 hectares and comprising a wide living space composed of several circular and elongated housing, higher dimensions and unusual for buildings of that time. The town is defended by three perimeters of walls with large dimensions.
To support of this new classification process is historic, archaeological, and scientific and landscape value, which witness's knowledge of the Iron Age settlement of Alto Minho.
