The construction of the Júlio Graça Avenue gardens dates back to the year 1870, when the city of Vila do Conde began to expand towards the sea. The design of the garden has undergone significant changes over the years.
Initially it was conceived as a "romantic garden" of natural design, it included a pond, a bridge, a bandstand and multiple plant species.
Throughout the twentieth century the garden was suffering various interventions, and is emphasizing the symmetry of the design, the regularity of the shapes of the plots, and the formalization of the existing alignments of plantains.
In summer, the presence of the imposing plantains their present, the visualisation of the fountains and the sound of water constantly in motion, and the beauty of green sites, stresses the bucolic character of this space.
The boulevards, defined by thick plantains, have been a preferred space for the conduct of trade fairs and exhibitions, especially the nationally recognized "Crafts Fair", held annually in this location.
