José Vieira de Carvalho died on 1st June 2002 at the age of 64.
He was born in 1938. He obtained a degree in History and Philosophy at the University of Lisbon and was a teacher for many years in the Faculdade de Letras in Porto.
He became involved in politics in 1970 when he was appointed Mayor of Maia. After the revolution of 25th April 1974 he was successively elected as Mayor of Maia from 1979 until the day he died.
