The “Biblioteca Municipal Francisco de Sá de Miranda” (Municipal Public Library), situated in the municipality of Amares, with 18,889 inhabitants, consisting of 24 townships in an area of about 83 square kilometres.
The building of the public library is situated in Largo D. Gualdim Pais, in the municipality of Amares. It is an alteration to the building of the old town hall, and has an area of 1 240 square metres.
Francisco de Sá de Miranda is the patron of the public library for being the landmark of Portuguese literature and for living the last years of his life in Amares at Quinta of Sá de Miranda, in Fiscal township. The body of the poet is buried in the Chapel of our Lady of Apresentação or the Tapada, located in the parish Church of Saint Martinho, in the township of Carrazedo.
