Description

The village of Castelo de Neiva has a long tradition of seaweed harvesting, which has the name of Sargasso. The seaweed got extracted from the sea and after drying, it was used has fertilizer in sandy soils. Here one can see the specific tools used to make the collection of algae at the sea and the traditional costumes with which man and woman worked in the water. One can even see a boat that was used by those people to ride waves. All works are documented in a film that can be watched at the museum. Visitors can also get to know some of the algae of the parish with its medicinal properties and even resulted in the creation of soap.
