The granite landmarks are classified as Buildings of Public Interest. They served to demarcate, in 1757, the Douro fortified wine area, under jurisdiction of Companhia Geral da Agricultura das Vinhas Douro. Ordered by the Marquis of Pombal, they are located in the following areas: Qta de Sto António, in Lugar do Tanque (road between Valdigem and Barreiro), in Lugar do Barreiro (road between Barreiro and Alto da Portela), and in Quinta da Assoreira (Malpica).
