"Ponte da Pica" (Pica Bridge)

Oliveira de Azeméis
Description
The “Ponte da Pica” is mentioned  traditionally as a bridge from the  roman times, which will be explained by the association of its location to  the roman road which  still existed  today in toponymy, despite of being in the meantime paved.

However, Nogueira Gonçalves  believes  that its typology, a central arch slightly surbased and flanked by two semi-circular arches are connected with  the   Middle Ages.

The bridge underwent several works, the last of which in 1990, that consisted of  the  dredging of the banks and replacement of the missing elements of masonry as well as  the pavement .

Regarding to the tradition and some photographic documentation, before the road paving,  we can take in consideration  that it is a very old road that is necessary to preserve.
