SANTO ISIDORO STONE CROSS, MOLEDO

Caminha
Description
On Santiago`s day ,in July 25  of each year, it was usual to hold a clamor procession that started from St. Isidore's Chapel, a Franciscan priest or the greatest scholar of Visigoth Spain, and ended in the place where they erected a simple cross on granite stone based on a pedestal in the same slab and surrounded by a wall which served as  a seat of rest for  the faithful people.

The clamours, also known by the popular eloquence as "cramores" constituted a significant religious tradition that, little by little, fell into disuse.

The memory of the older people from Moledo makes us relive the route and traditions. It is said that, already in the late nineteenth century, to strengthen the clamor calling for the intercession of Saint Isidore, people who embodied the procession carried a tile on the head. This tile would serve to "tile" or repair the roof of the chapel, often destroyed by bad weather (Maria Small, 88 years).

St. Isidore`s  brotherhood, whose institution dates from ancient times, covered fourteen parishes, from Viana until Caminha. The pilgrims,  representes  one person in each home ,comply with their presence every year . The brotherhood has its headquarters in St. Isidore's Chapel, which is, at the moment, very active. "
