Built between the ends of the sixteenth century / beginning of the seventeenth century, given that the building was completed in 1618; the fort of S. João Baptista shows a plan with five polygonal ramparts, trimmed at angles by sentry. Its construction had as an objective the protection of the Ave port, losing their value after the military outcome of the Civil war in 1834. Today it has been converted into a hotel.
