Solar of Loureira

Vila Nova de Cerveira
Description

The Loureira palace is a beautiful baroque building design, but believing in the Letter of Affiliation, which was passed to Antonio de Sousa Ferraz Novais, by D. João VI, on March 22, 1824 was built during the neoclassical season. Incidentally we note in the design of its statuary. The clash of this harmony is, however, a pseudo-tower erected in the southern part of the set. It is a construction of revivalist nature, because it was built between the close of the nineteenth century and the beginning of the twentieth century.
In this remarkable set, the scenography which gives the movement of granite that make up the facade that opens on L to a large courtyard protected by a high wall served by crenellated gate, by the pinnacles, merlons and statuary that spread by walls and roofs and especially by the movement of the facade of the chapel which was dedicated to St. Mary Magdalene.
The beauty of this building is reflected in the balance between the dash and the decorative architectonic component that has been added with the gardens and the statuary. The garden is in front of the house, defended by a railing. Decorate it a precious fountain, with a beautiful bowl where the water falls. The statuary, the figure of the Roman military fashion, appears mainly to decorate the top of the portal where pontificates a lush representation of weapons of the "Cadavais", or more specifically of the Sousa (Arronches) to whom belongs the timbre and inside the spacious courtyard.
A building with an enviable history in the national scene.
