Távora River Valley

Tabuaço
Description
The Távora River valley runs through the entire municipality of Tabuaço, offering landscapes of rare beauty. The Távora River is a tributary of the Douro River. It flows to its left bank, has its mouth in the municipality of Tabuaço, begins near Trancoso and is about 47 km long.
The Távora River is a mountain river. It meanders and is protected by granite cliffs that seem to touch the sky, creating a bleak landscape and a valley. Sometimes it is tame, sometimes wild, but when it reaches the Douro River it is serene and tired.
Along its course, the river provides sites and hidden places of natural beauty, such as the natural castles of Cabriz, the Poldras windmill and Vilar dam. On the river banks, there are many wine-producing farms, and close to its mouth, where the river is wider as it draws near the Douro River, we find the Távora River pier. For the most part, the river is quite a challenge due to its geological characteristics. Those who enjoy more daring experiences will love to explore it. The natural and untamed landscapes will delight tourists and visitors.
