The “Aguiã” Tower

Arcos de Valdevez
Description
Composed of an irregular L-shaped plan and formed by several elements, includes a squared tower crowned with battlements, probably built around the 14th century, and later integrated in the “Santa Maria da Valboa” Monastery (“Vila Nova de Cerveira”).

The medieval tower is part of baroque manor structure built in the 18th century, consisting of a large central body composed of double superimposed arcades and two side staircases. Typologically is part of the so-called "casa-torre” (tower-house), demonstrating however a less common solution to integrate the tower in the centre.
