The Museum of Rural Memory is a cultural structure of the municipality of Carrazeda de Ansiães, located in Vilarinho da Castanheira, dedicated to the tangible and intangible heritage. I tis the first museum to extensively explore the rural culture of the region of Douro and Trás-os-Montes. Represented here are traditional trades such as farrier, basketweavers, fishermen of the Douro River, baker, cheese-makers, shepherds, coopers, shoemakers,tinsmiths, millers and cork producers. In the future, former techniques related to the local economy will also be represented, such as fig-drying ovéns, the construction o fox-carts and former tile-producing ovéns. Based on a set of technological resources, which include the latest multimedia solutions, the Museum of Rural Memory is essentially didactic, paying tribute to the rural culture of a people with a long history and an ancient cultural tradition that needs to be preserved, studied and disseminated.
