2022 is the year of the XXII Cerveira International Art Biennial. Between July 16 and December 31, Vila Nova de Cerveira will host this exhibition dedicated to contemporary artistic production. A total of 270 works by 318 artists from 29 countries will be presented.
Celebrating 44 years, the biennial wants to act and to encourage artists to think about the world and its global emergencies. Under the theme “WE MUST TAKE ACTION / DEVEMOS AGIR”, we intend to reflect on urgent issues such as the environment and sustainability, a challenge proposed to the artistic community and the general public.
Under the artistic direction of Helena Mendes Pereira, the event will maintain the format adopted since its first edition (1978), having as programmatic guidelines: tribute to Helena Almeida, guest country - Japan, international competition, guest artists, international conferences, artist in residency programme and artistic interventions, activities throughout the Municipality of V. N. de Cerveira, exhibition centres in Minho and Galicia, curatorial projects, workshops, guided tours and art in public space.
