Pilgrim Hostel

Paredes de Coura
Description / Facilities
The refurbished old primary school is situated in a strategic location: Rubiães. The parish has a rich medieval legacy: the church of S. Pedro de Rubiães. The old school, in Costa, is an architectural example of reference designed by architect Adães Bermudes, who won the 1st prize for Primary School projects. There are about 300 similar schools across the country. The idea behind the hostel came from the need to accommodate the pilgrims taking the Portuguese Caminho to Santiago. The century-old building was refurbished to provide support and is open to anyone wishing to stay overnight.
