Situated in the heart of the Port Wine Region, Casa dos Varais stands on the south bank of the River Douro. Although the house dates back to the 18th century, the original part was built in the 16th century. Casa dos Varais is known for its turbulent history when it was invaded by Napoleon’s troops in 1808 and burnt down in 1940. Today, however, visitors will find a magnificent house in a most tranquil setting.
Casa dos Varais is only open from 1 April to 31 October.
